Míra
Karlín vs. Palmovka: Latte vs. Park Bench
Míra is a punk who travelled across Europe light — with no suitcase, no documents, but plenty of stories. He lived in Italian squats, survived on the streets of France, and instead of collecting the comforts of a picture-perfect life, he collected stories that he now serves up with humour, perspective, and a kind of honesty that can sometimes sting.
On his new tour, he’ll take you to places in Palmovka and Karlín where people don’t usually go. It starts innocently enough — by the metro, at the stairs near Komerční banka. From there, you’ll dive into the local jungle of myths: that Palmovka is just a transfer station, or a neighbourhood that is “about to become cool any minute now.” But reality? That’s a little different.
You’ll pass an unfinished building that has become more of a squat, then head through a small wooded area to a place where waste is sorted — and where people also live. People here get paid to bring order to the mess of the world. And alongside that, there is the spirit of the past: there used to be a huge cemetery here, and some say the energy is still strong. Maybe you’ll feel it too — and maybe a chill will run down your spine when you hear the ghost stories told by locals.
Then comes the contrast: luxury developments in Karlín, including a sculpture by David Černý, and on the other side, a peripheral area that will surely be built over one day as well. Naturally, Míra will take you into that periphery, where people without homes live in tents and makeshift shelters. Hidden, invisible — but real. At the end, you’ll walk past the local concrete plant and finish at Přístav 18600. There, you can sit down, have a drink, and ask Míra anything. Whether you’re curious about life on the street, Italian squats, or what it means to carry a sense of calm inside you even when everything around you is chaos.
